UQ's Industrial Ecology PhD Student to Participate in Young Scientists Summer Program at Interna
UQ's SEES (Industrial Ecology program) PhD Candidate Milton Uba de Andrade Jr (a research advisee of Dr. Anthony Halog) has been selected to participate in the 2017 Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Vienna, Austria. Since 1977, this prestigious IIASA’s annual 3-month YSSP offers research opportunities to young researchers whose interests correspond with IIASA’s ongoing research on issues of global environmental, economic and social change. From June through August accepted young scientist work within the Institute’s research programs under the guidance of IIASA scientific staff.
This year IIASA received 340 applicants from which 53 have been selected from over 30 countries. In conjunction with his PhD project at UQ, Milton will be studying indirect land-use change impacts due to ethanol production expansion in Brazil using GLOBIOM, a global model to assess competition for land use between agriculture, bioenergy, and forestry that has been adapted to a Brazilian regional version called GLOBIOM-Brazil.\
